The Stage Media Company Limited provides news and services for the UK theatre, entertainment and performing arts industry.
Established in 1880, The Stage is a private limited company owned by the family of one of the two founders. Publishing across the web and print, The Stage is a must-read for those with an involvement or interest in the performing arts industry in Great Britain and beyond. The Stage is an essential resource for actors and performers, backstage workers, creative teams and those in training and education.
Among several other dedicated areas, The Stage company has a special place for publicizing castings named 'The Stage Castings'. The Stage Castings application acts as a matcher between arts performers and casting directors. From the performer's perspective, the service is packed with auditions and casting opportunities for acting, singing, dancing, or presenter jobs. For Casting directors, the app is an easy self-service means of casting their next production.
The Stage Castings allows to upload performer roles for such castings and incorporates video performances as an optional part of the shortlisting process.
The Stage Castings offers a email based service to agents as well. They can be alerted to castings that are not publicly available for view on the main website. Some highlighted challenges faced in this particular project were:
Complete back end development of the casting matching platform.

Advanced faceted search architectural design and database modeling with rigorous automated testing.

For this project, we initially received a thorough description of the goals and high-level requirements of the platform in prose form. We then followed through many functional implementations of those ideas, asking for feedback at each step. The initial UX/UI designs were done in collaboration with a creative design agency in London.
When we implemented the user flows, our team took the usability design very seriously, to allow for both performers and casting directors (advertisers) to go through their corresponding process in the most comfortable way possible.
We followed an iterative approach with frequent reviews and a rigorous testing process. At the end of the project, a technical handover took place for two weeks on site, we documented the project and took the in-house lead developer through the different parts of the system.
The Stage Castings application is now an extension of The Stage's advertising services, which has allowed them to differentiate themselves from traditional media companies, by providing a digital platform that supports their scenic arts customer base.
The most highlighted feature is the search module which allows casting directors to have control over 28 complete dimensions to filter what they are looking for in an artiste. Delivering over 6000+ brilliant roles and circulating close to 100 active public adverts and over 450+ active performers with incredible profile detail at any given moment.
